L’Istituto Nazionale di Archeologia e Storia dell’Arte, fondato nel 1918 con sede a Roma, è impegnato da 14 anni nelle attività di scavo, restauro e ricerca scientifica presso il Santuario Sannitico di Pietrabbondante. Si è avvalso del supporto di archeologi e restauratori professionisti nonché di studenti provenienti da tutto il mondo, sotto la guida del Prof. Adriano La Regina ed in collaborazione con laSoprintendenza Archeologica del Molise.

In questo gruppo di lavoro ci siamo anche noi, dei giovani archeologi volontari, impegnati da anni in uno scavo che ha restituito straordinarie ed uniche evidenze archeologiche: la domus publica, nella cui area i lavori devono insistere per portare a termine le indagini e numerosi altri settori, che hanno evidenziato le potenzialità del più importante centro politico cultuale dell’Italia preromana. Inoltre una nuova struttura templare è stata individuata e indagata in un’area fino ad allora non esplorata, aggiungendosi al complesso teatro-tempio e al tempio minore. Tale indagine, per mancanza di fondi e non di volontà, potrebbe concludersi senza veder compiuto tutto il lavoro di studio e ricostruzione di queste strutture.

Con il vostro contributo possiamo raggiungere due obiettivi distinti:

1.  Al raggiungimento di 10.000 euro potremo sostenere le spese necessarie per lo studio dei materiali in laboratorio e le relative analisi scientifiche, al fine di divulgare le importanti scoperte di questi anni. Con il tuo contributo sosterrai il lavoro di 15 archeologi che si occuperanno dello studio di migliaia di reperti, rendendo possibile la ricostruzione della storia del sito.

2.  Al raggiungimento dei 30.000 euro sarà possibile proseguire l’indagine archeologica sul campo nei mesi di Luglio e Agosto 2016. In particolare tali indagini interesseranno la domus publica e l’area del nuovo tempio; ci permetteranno inoltre di aprire nuovi saggi esplorativi, poiché il sito presenta evidenze archeologiche estese per oltre 40 ettari, indagati ad oggi solo per il 25%. Operai specializzati, mezzi meccanici, assicurazioni, vitto e alloggio dell’équipe saranno alcune delle spese fondamentali che, tramite il vostro aiuto, sarà possibile sostenere.

Perché contribuire?

Con il vostro contributo renderete possibile la scoperta delle ricchezze di un sito archeologico che è tra i più importanti del centro Italia insieme a Roma e Pompei. Pietrabbondante costituisce un centro politico, religioso e militare sannita che, nonostante risulti essere il più visitato della regione Molise, necessita di una maggiore visibilità.

Perché questo luogo fu scenario di importanti avvenimenti bellici e politici, inseriti all’interno del più ampio processo di formazione dell’Italia come nazione.

Perché con il tuo contributo eviterai sia la sospensione delle attività di scavo e ricerca condotte finora con continuità, ma anche il degrado delle strutture e la perdita di dati preziosi per la ricostruzione storica. 

Perché ci permetterai di proseguire lo studio dei reperti in attesa della loro collocazione nella struttura museale esistente, ad oggi non ancora utilizzabile ed in abbandono.

The National Institute of Archaeology and History of Art in Rome, founded in 1918, has been engaged for 14 years in the excavation, restoration and scientific research at the Samnite Sanctuary in Pietrabbondante, in central Italy. The Institute had the collaboration of professional archaeologists and restorers as well as students from around the world, under the guidance of Professor Adriano La Regina, and with the collaboration of the Archaeological Superintendence of Molise.

We, young volunteer archaeologists, are part of this working group too. We have been engaged for years in an excavation works that returned unique outstanding archaeological evidence: the domus publica, where the work must continue to complete surveys, in addition to numerous other sectors, which have revealed the potential of the most important cultural and political centre in pre-Roman Italy. Moreover, in an area hitherto unexplored, a new temple structure was identified and investigated, adding to the theatre-temple complex and to the lower temple. The archaeological survey, for lack of funds and not for lack of will, unfortunately could come to an end, without seeing accomplished all the study and reconstruction work so far dedicated to these structures.

With your kind help we would be able to achieve two distinct goals:

 1. Upon reaching 10,000€ contributions, we could sustain the expenses necessary for the study of materials in a laboratory and corresponding scientific analysis, with the ultimate scope of disseminating the important discoveries made during the years. With your donation, you will be supporting the work of 15 archaeologists who will dedicate themselves to the study of thousands of exhibits, making the reconstruction of the site's history possible.

2. On reaching the 30,000€ contributions, it will be possible to continue the archaeological field survey in the months of July and August 2016. In particular, these investigations will be carried out in the domus publica excavation site and in the area of ​​the new temple. These funds would also allow our team to open new exploratory digs; thus far the site showing archaeological evidence (stretching to an area of over 40 hectares) has left 75% of the area unexplored!!! Skilled workers, mechanical tools, insurance, room and board for the team will represent some of the basic expenses that, through your help, we would be able to finance.

Why contribute?

With your contributions, you will render the discovery of the riches of an archaeological site that is among the most important in central Italy, along with Rome and Pompeii. Pietrabbondante is a Samnite archaeological centre of political, religious and military importance that, despite proving to be the most visited site in the Molise region, needs to achieve greater visibility. Why?

Because: Pietrabbondante was the scene of many important political and military events, which contributed to the larger process of the creation of Italy as a nation.

Because: with your contribution you will circumvent not only the suspension of excavation operations and research activities conducted continuously so far, but also the deterioration of the structures already exposed and the loss of valuable data for historical reconstruction.

Because: you would enable us to continue the study of the findings, pending their placement in the existing museum, currently still in a state of disrepair and not yet fit for use.
